Should accountants be building more tools?

Historically the results of have not been good, accountants do not typically build good technology. Excel has been the tool of choice for 30 years, allowing flexibility for individual company nuances, However in an AI native world, with deeper automation possible, and without the shackles of Excel.... Can a deep domain expert build a more useful product quicker than great product leader?
